North Pole, Alaska Homes For Sale: North Pole has an amazingly diverse style of homes that come up for sale.  You can buy a log home with acreage on the river.  Or if you want new home that is energy efficient in town, there are opportunities to purchase new construction homes right from the builder.  Do you only need a small place with a massive garage for your vehicles, snowmobiles, ATV’s and camping/hunting gear? This style of home comes up for sale on occasion as well.   Just like Fairbanks, you can purchase a duplex, 4-plex or a foreclosure in North Pole. 

Fairbanks and North Pole Real Estate: The two main areas of Interior Alaska are Fairbanks and North Pole.  Fairbanks and North Pole are only about 20 minutes away from each other, but are much different cities and have different real estate markets.  Fairbanks is a larger city and does have a higher average temperature in the winter time.  It’s not uncommon for Fairbanks to be 10 degrees or more warmer than North Pole.  Also, if you live in the hills surrounding Fairbanks, this temperature difference can be even greater.  Fairbanks is in close proximity to the University of Alaska Fairbanks and offers many different housing opportunities, whether it be in the hills, on the river, a home with some elbow room on several acres or in a more conventional neighborhood with a smaller city lot.  There are very nice cross country ski trails at UAF on the west side of town and at Birch Hill Recreation Area on the east side of town.  And there are many areas to access the Chena River with your boat, raft or even paddle board.  And let’s not forget to mention that Fairbanks is known as one of the best places in the world to see the Northern Lights!

North Pole, the city known for its year-round Christmas decorations, is a popular place to live for many families stationed at Eielson Air Force Base because of its close proximity to Eielson.  Also, North Pole generally offers more ‘bang for your buck’ with a home purchase, giving you more square footage, a larger lot, or maybe even a newer home for less money that you would spend on a similar home in Fairbanks.  There are also a lot of recreational opportunities within a short drive from North Pole including the Chena Lakes Recreation Area where you can camp, swim, fish, canoe and have a family bbq.  There are groomed cross country ski trails at Chena Lakes in the winter time.  In less than an hour drive you can be to Harding Lake.  Harding Lake, named after President Warren G. Harding, is lined with cabins that on occasion come available to purchase.  It’s a very popular lake for boating, jet skiing, water skiing and all around fun on the water.  You don’t need a cabin to have a great time, you can camp or bring your RV as well.
